The help section should address any difficulties you might have in getting this site to work for you. Whether it be you are new to the web, or some other SNAFU of this damned technology, Checkered Past is here to allieve your misery! (ironic isnt it?) Just look below to find answers to many issues. Everything is catagorized by different subjects. Take your time and read carefully, and your problems should be solved. Some of this stuff might seem a bit trivial to one that is "net savy", but none of us were born knowing this stuff so please have a little patience for those that aren't. We need to help them too. Browser IssuesThis site uses Javascript and cookies and all kinds of other things that can trip some older browsers up. The best thing to do right now is go and download the lastest browser of your choice. We have two flavors Netscape and Internet Explorer. The downloads are free so don't worry. If there are still any issues like the store is not adding what you select into the cart, then it is because in your "Preferences" you have selected to to accept "cookies". These are not cookies in the "mom bakes great cookies" kind of way, but in the way your browser accepts little markers from a server that does different things (sepends on the cookie)...there are different types of cookies just like "Toll House" and "Chocolate Chip". They are both cookies but pretty different too. So if you want the store to work, you need to turn the cookies on. You do that by finding the "preferences" menu of your browser and then selecting "cookies" and "accept"; Also you will nedd to have Javascript turned on and that is also in your browser's preferences. It is pretty cool stuff, so make sure you got it on!!! There are all other kinds of computer problems but if they have to do with your computer it is not our problem. If it has been over five years since you bought your computer, you need a new one. Go and buy a decent one and get lots of RAM in it. It will make you life easier. Bandwidth IssuesThis site was made to download quickly on a 56k modem. So any issues like this site is slow or any crap like that will not be listen to. This site is on a really fast server, and the issue is more than likely your Internet Service Provider especially if you have America Online. America Online is a fucking joke if you ask me, and you should really get onto the Internet properly. To find an ISP near you go to http://www.thelist.com and I would highly reccommend getting either a Cable Modem or DSL connection. Once you go broadband you will never go back. It is just painstaking to surf the Internet over a dial-up modem. Even surfing the Internet on a 56k modem is like watching old people eat. Get with it, get braodband. If you think this site doesnt have enough bells and whistles, well that is because I am not an asshole and design this site with a 256k intro movie that takes forever and a day to download and watch when I know all you folks really want is to get some bloody music!!! So if you want that sort of spinning logos bursting into flames or little thin lines that intersect each other with little pictures popping out, go somewhere else. This is a music site and thats what we will give you. On that note, let's proceed. Plug-in / Media PlayersThis site does use some plug-ins like Shockwave. To get that go to http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/downloads/. Download the proper version of Shockwave for your computer and then quit your browser and install it, then come back here for some fancy stuff. If you need windows Media Player to watch streaming video, go to http://www.windowsmedia.com/download/. MP3'sMP3s (or MPEG3, pronouned em-peg3) is a type of file compression that allows sound files to be small in size but very high in quality. A one minute, stereo sound file of CD quality (in a .wav or .aiff file) takes up 10 Megabytes of disk space. That same file takes up just under 1 Megabyte of space after being compressed into MP3 format. As far as sound quality, most people can't tell the difference between an MP3 and a CD. What's the benefit? It takes about 15 minutes to download a near CD quality song over a standard modem, whereas a .wav or .aiff would take several hours. You can download a free player such as Soundjam. If you want to save the M93 songs onto your hard drive from the "Media" page, if you are on a Macintosh, hold click down on the link to the song you want and then hold the mouse down, a little menu will pop up and then select "save link to drive"...or a windows machine, you just right click and hold down, same process just save to your drive and then playback with your MP3 player. |
